Welcome to Strawn, Texas

Located less than four miles off Interstate 20 midway between Fort Worth and Abilene, the city of Strawn serves as the gateway to the beautiful North Texas Hill Country. Nestled in the crook of the cedar-covered hills forming the southern end of the Palo Pinto Mountain Range, this bustling ranching community is home to friendly people, caring neighbors and a laid-back lifestyle.

Offering affordable living and a great school system, the town is an easy commute for those working in either Fort Worth or Abilene (or any of the other communities in-between). For outdoor enthusiasts, several popular lakes, including beautiful Possum Kingdom, are less than a 30-minute drive away, as is public access to the Brazos River.  Those venturing into the surrounding hills and protected valleys soon discover an area rich in majestic views and abundant wildlife, including white tail deer, wild hog, turkey and dove. The area truly is a hunters' paradise.

On most Friday evenings in later summer and throughout the fall, you'll find many of the town's residents at Greyhound Field to cheer on the Strawn Greyhounds, one of the best-known six-man football teams in the entire state. Whether you consider yourself a football fan or not, if you've never seen a six-man game, you'll want to catch one at the Greyhound field first chance you get. Six-man football is a whole 'nuther kind of game. And with two recent state championships under their belt, the Strawn Greyhounds are a great team to watch. No brag. Just fact.

In recent months, the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife purchased land just outside Strawn city limits for the creation of a new state park. While no definite opening date has yet been established, the Palo Pinto Mountain State Park is tentatively scheduled to open its gates to visitors in 2018.

Our hope is that this website provides useful information regarding our community and that you will decide to pay us a visit soon.
