The City of Strawn has entered stage 3 drought response measures. The goal of stage 3 drought response is to reduce average daily consumption by 50%.
Irrigation of landscaped areas shall be limited to Sundays and Thursdays for customers with a street address ending in even numbers and Saturdays and Wednesdays for customers with a street address ending in odd numbers. Irrigation is limited to the hours of 12:00 midnight to 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight on designated watering days and shall be by means of hand-held hoses, hand-held buckets or drip irrigation or permanently installed automatic sprinkler system only. The use of hose-end sprinklers is prohibited at all times.
The watering of football and baseball fields is prohibited unless field utilizes a water source other than that provided by the City of Strawn.
The use of water for construction purposes from designated fire hydrants under special permit is to be discontinued.
Use of water to wash any motor vehicle, motorcycle, boat, trailer or other vehicle is prohibited except on designated watering days during designated hours. Such washing, when allowed, shall be done with a hand-held bucket or a hand-held hose equipped with a shutoff nozzle for quick rinses. Vehicle washing may be done at any time on the immediate premises of a commercial car wash.
Use of water to fill, refill or add to any indoor or outdoor swimming pools, wading pools or Jacuzzi-type pools is prohibited except on designated watering days during designated hours.
Operation of any ornamental fountain or pond for aesthetic or scenic purposes is prohibited except where necessary to support aquatic life or where such fountains or ponds are equipped with a recirculation system.
All restaurants are prohibited from serving water to patrons except upon request of the patron.
The following uses of water are defined as non-essential and are prohibited:
- Wash down of any sidewalks, walkways, driveways, parking lots, tennis courts or other hard surfaced areas.
- Use of water to wash down buildings or structures for purposes other than immediate fire protection
- Use of water for dust control
- Flushing gutters
- Failure to repair a controllable leak within a reasonable period after having been given notice directing the repair of such leak.

Contest winners will receive a gift card to be used at either Gordon Hardware or Lowe’s.
- 1st place - $500 gift card
- 2nd place - $300 gift card
- 3rd place - $200 gift card
All eligible entries must abide by the following rules & parameters:
Complete property improvements AND submit an application by Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 4:00 pm.
Applications must be submitted to:
- Strawn City Hall, City Secretary’s Office (Mon-Fri, 9 am to 4 pm)
- Strawn Chamber Office (Fridays, 10 am to 3 pm)
- Mailed to; Strawn Chamber, PO Box 278, Strawn, TX 76475 (postmarked by June 10th)
Property improvements must be completed by Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 4:00 pm
Properties must be located within the city limits of Strawn OR within one mile of the city limits of Strawn
Multiple properties may be entered on one application
Entries must submit photos of the properties before the clean-up and after the clean-up
Entries must list the improvements that were made to the property (see back page)
The area that is improved must be visible from a public street or road
Applicants must own or lease the property that is improved
To participate, applicants must clean & improve a property that they own or rent. This could include:
- Cutting, trimming and/or removing tall and unsightly weeds, grass, brush and trees
- Demolishing dilapidated and/or abandoned buildings
- Removing inoperable and junk automobiles, tractors, trucks & farm equipment
- Removing debris, junk, tires, litter and trash
- Landscaping property
- Removing dirt, grass, brush and weeds from sidewalks and curbs
- Chamber Board Members and panel judges are not eligible to participate in this contest
- Grazing land/pasture land greater than 1 acre that is cleared of brush for the purpose of this contest will not be considered. If brush clearing is included with the removal of debris, trash, dilapidated buildings, junk cars, etc., then property will be considered.
Winners will be chosen and approved by a panel consisting of Chamber members and/or Strawn residents. The Panel has the sole discretion to determine if improved properties meet the standards of the contest.
Exclusions:
List ALL improvements that have been completed on the property or properties from May 1st to June 10th, 2014. To increase your chances of winning, briefly explain what was improved (Ex. Removed three dead trees; removed two junk cars; mowed/weedeated entire property.) All improvements must be documented with a before and after photo.

The Development Corporation of Strawn is proud to announce that Doctor Christopher Tidroski and Doctor Jennifer Tidroski will be opening an office in the Strawn Wellness Center at 119 Central Avenue. City Wide Clean Up 4/5/2014
City Wide Clean up will take place on Saturday, April 5th in conjunction with Texas Trash Off. Dumpsters will be located on the football field road in the normal location. City residents and out of town residents with a current Strawn water bill will be able to dump household trash as well as matress' and appliences.
