Palo Pinto Mountains State Park Trail Ride March 29 & 30, 2014
State Park Trail Ride in MarchPalo Pinto Mountains State Park will be the location of an equestrian or horseback trail ride on Saturday and Sunday, March 29 and 30. This ride is hosted by the Texas Equestrian Trail Riders Association, the North Texas Range Riders, the Brazos Hounds and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The park is located just 2 miles west of Strawn on FM 2372. There will be a trail ride on Saturday morning, beginning at 9 a.m. Following the morning trail ride there will be a barbeque lunch at 1 p.m. For late arrivals, there will be another ride on Saturday afternoon from 2 p.m. or so until about 6 p.m. For those hardy souls who can't get enough of the trails, there will be a final ride on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. Friday check-in will begin after 3:00 p.m. and Saturday check-in starts at 7:30 a.m. Cost for the event is $20.00 for the trail ride, which includes the barbeque lunch or $10.00 for the lunch only for those who are not riding. Particiapants coming in from out of town may camp in the park on Friday and Saturday night. Space is available, but no water or electric hookups. There is a large corral for horses or you may bring your own portable panels. CURRENT COGGINS PAPERS ARE REEQUIRED FOR ALL ANIMALS!

The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, along with the Texas Astronomical Society of Dallas, and the Fort Worth Astronomical Society, will be hosting a stargazing party at Palo Pinto Mountains State Park on Saturday, April 26, beginning at 5 p.m.
The park is located near Strawn, which is 4 miles north of Interstate 20, halfway between Fort Worth and Abilene.
To get to the event, just go west on FM 2372 or the Tucker Lake Road from Strawn.
Go two miles from town and look for the signs.
You can bring your own telescope or use one provided by volunteers, who will be on hand to share expertise, knowledge, and lore.
Hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and drinks will be available.
In the event of rain or cloudy skies, the event will be the following Saturday, May 3.

The 2nd annual Chamber “Merry Hometown Christmas” event will take place on Friday, December 20, at Memorial Park & Pavilion downtown (weather permitting). This year, the event will also feature a Christmas concert by the Tarleton State University Jazz Ensemble!
The event kicks off with photos with Frosty & Rudolph from 5:00 to 6:00 at City Hall, followed by the Lighted Christmas Parade at 6:30, Chili Supper at 7:00, Photos with Santa following the parade, and Concert at 7:30.

Celebrating trails improvement at Palo Pinto Mountains State Park, located 4 miles north of I-20 and half-way between Fort Worth and Abilene.
Come on Friday evening for BBQ followed by an auction to support trails committee expenses and stay to ride Saturday morning on the new trails and other ranch roads. Dinner at 6 p.m. Friday; ride out at 9:00 a.m. Saturday. No other meals provided and bring a sack lunch for Saturday on the trail.
Primitive camping only (no hook-ups or pens), Plenty of parking under huge trees. Negative Coggins required and bring one or more items to auction. Funds raised will be used for equipment fuel, water, and ice for trails work.
Friday check-in will begin after 3:00 p.m. and Saturday check-in starts at 7:30 a.m. Cost for the event is $10.00.

From I-20 exit to Highway 16 north to Strawn
From US Hwy 180, travel south on Hwy 16 to Strawn
In Strawn take FM 2372 west. Park entrance is on the left, watch for TPWD sign. Trail Ride Signs will be posted.
